Reducing our own carbon emissions
We make hot water cylinders for heat pumps and other low carbon systems, and we’re working to become net zero ourselves. Here’s what we’ve done so far, and what we’re still working on.
Why we’re doing this
Clients, consultants and contractors are increasingly asked to show the carbon in their supply chain. We think a manufacturer of low carbon heating equipment should be cutting its own emissions too, not just talking about its customers’.
We haven’t finished. This page keeps what we have done separate from what we are still working on, so you can see exactly where we are.

Done
What we have done
- Done
Scope 1 and 2 emissions reporting
Reporting of our scope 1 and scope 2 carbon emissions is now in place.
- Done
100 kW of new solar PV
We have just installed 100 kW of solar PV on our factory roof, on top of the 16 kW system that was already there.
- Done
Factory roof insulated
Last year we insulated the whole factory roof.

What we are working on
These are plans and work in progress, not results. When one is finished, it moves up to “What we have done”.
- Being explored
Our other factory roof
We are looking at insulating our other factory roof and adding solar PV to it.
- Being explored
Low carbon heating for the factory
We are looking at low carbon options for heating the factory.
- In progress
Scope 3: the carbon in our products
We are working to establish the carbon embedded in our products by finding out the carbon in our supply chain. This is an ongoing piece of work.
Scope 1, 2 and 3: what they mean
Carbon emissions are usually reported in three “scopes”, as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
- Scope 1Direct emissions
- Emissions from sources a company owns or controls itself, such as fuel burned in its own boilers, furnaces or vehicles.
- Scope 2Purchased energy
- Emissions caused by producing the electricity, heat, steam or cooling a company buys and uses: they happen at the power station, but they are counted because the company used the energy.
- Scope 3The value chain
- All the other emissions a company is indirectly responsible for, up and down its supply chain, such as making the materials and parts it buys, transport by other firms, and the use and disposal of the products it sells.
Our aim
Leading by example
We’re trying to become net zero ourselves, one step at a time, and to lead by example as we go. If you need information about our carbon for a tender or supplier questionnaire, ask us.
